ASUU: Strike Continues Until FG Implements Offer

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Thursday said the ongoing strike would not be called off until the Federal Government fully implemented all the offers it made to the union after their last meeting. The public university lecturers said they were tired of Federal Government’s antics of making unfulfilled promises, insisting that the strike would be called off after they got tangible evidence and concrete actions that the offers made to them by the Federal Government had been implemented. The National President, ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in an exclusive interview with one of our correspondents in Lagos on Thursday, said the team of the union that met with the government on Tuesday did not reach any agreement with the Federal Government. Impeachment: Ambode, Lagos Lawmakers Disagree On 2019 Budget

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday said Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode must appear before it and properly present the 2019 Appropriation Bill in line with legislative procedure and constitution. This resolution followed observations raised at its sitting, after the Clerk of the House, Mr Azeez Sanni, read a correspondence from Ambode on the presentation of Year 2019 Budget. Sanni said that Ambode’s letter on presentation of Year 2019 Appropriation Bill, dated Dec. 17, 2018, was received on Dec. 28, 2018. Raising an observation on the correspondence, Mr Yinka Ogundimu, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance, said that Ambode had not properly presented the budget. Ogundimu, who noted that the House delayed it December break to receive the budget, said that the procedure of Ambode’s presentation of budget totally deviated from the norms of the House. According to him, the House’s intention was to receive the budget before the short break. He urged the House to address the issue.

Buhari Appoints Umar El-yakub As SSA National Assembly

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub as the new Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives). Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed this development in a statement made available to OkayNG News in Abuja on Thursday. Mr Adesina said El-Yakub’s appointment followed the resignation of Kawu Sumaila who was in that position. Mr Sumaila, who was appointed in August 2015, resigned to contest for the House of Representatives member for Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency in Kano State under the the All Progressives Congress, APC. Atiku Friends Endorsed Him Not We, Ohanaeze Says

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has denied endorsing Alhaji Atiku Abubarka, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election. The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Mr Chuks Ibegbu disclosed this on Thursday in Enugu at a media briefing to mark the second anniversary of the current executive of the organisation.
